Join us at the City Council Meeting - Tomorrow, August 18th @ 7:00PM
We're also holding a community presentation and Q&A prior to meeting for folks who would like to learn more.
Hello Friends!
It's about 24 hours from the August 18th Woodstock City council meeting where we'll be submitting our petition to get Flock Safety out of Woodstock, IL. When the city released their new internal Flock usage policy on Friday, it drove a huge amount of traffic to our petition, so we are still rapidly gaining signatures. Our petition was also mentioned in stories in the Northwest Herald and the Lake and McHenry County Scanner, bringing additional visibility.
The Plan
At 6:00 PM we're having a community presentation and Q&A called "No Flocks Left to Give" at The Records Department, 315 E South St (next to the tunnel). Depending on the site of the group, we may hold the presentation outside in the parking lot. Parking will be available but limited. We encourage you to park in one of the nearby city lots and join us afterwards for the short walk over to city hall at 121 W Calhoun St for the city council meeting, which starts at 7:00 PM. The weather forecast speaks of possible scattered storms, so bring an umbrella.
As the mayor has refused to put the topic of Flock Safety on the agenda, we will be submitting our petition during the public comment section of the meeting. The rules of public comment are that you can speak for 3 minutes (we're expecting Mayor Turner to be watching the clock) on any topic that is not on the agenda. This will be your opportunity to share with the mayor and city council your thoughts on this matter.
We will probably try to speak first and submit the petition, but then we would really love for you to be there and add your voice. If you would like to say something but not sure what, we're going to bring some material that you are welcome to read. We want to slow the meeting down as much as possible while also clearly conveying our message, which is that we the people asked for the city to reject the expansion of the mass surveillance state in Woodstock and we were ignored, for own good. Now we are demanding, in much greater numbers, that it is all removed. We want our privacy and 4th amendment rights back.
Bring your friends. We are looking forward to some community-building and would love for you to join us.
